W hen we were at school, we had fun with The Mitten story by Jan Brett. We acted out the story with masks, and then we sewed our own mittens and packed them full of all the characters needed to retell the story, being careful to keep the "plot" in order. Then, we read Alvin Tresselt's version of The Mitten and compared the two texts.
In science, we explored the four seasons, with special focus on winter. It was pretty easy to identify signs of winter this week, since the weather was so cold and snowy! Friday, we wrote about winter and made special snowmen by following a key.
In Writing Workshop, we have started "writing for readers." We are striving to write neatly, leave spaces between words, and capitalize only when necessary...so that readers can read our writing! We also took our first winter MAP test Friday. The kids worked hard to show what they have learned in math. Enjoy a few glimpses of our week in the slideshow below, including some photos of our inside recess dance moves!
