In reading this week, we continued to practice letter identification and spelling & writing our names. We loved using the website www.abcya.com on the computers and Smartboard to practice letter order, matching capitals and lowercase, and more!
Throughout the week, we had fun with fruit! We guessed mystery fruits in the "feely" box, learned what all fruits have (seeds), and made our own fruit books. While making our books, we practiced matching pictures to text and pointing under each word while we read. We also learned how to read with a partner for more reading practice.
We learned that fruits come in all colors and shapes. In math this week, we learned some new shapes, using our pattern blocks - trapezoids, hexagons and rhombuses (also called diamonds). We used the shapes to make patterns that our partners tried to continue.
We also created patterns when we made our own caterpillars. This week we learned the life cycle of a butterfly, which starts as a tiny egg that turns into a caterpillar. If you've heard your child singing the song, you know the caterpillar turns into a chrysalis, the chrysalis turns into a butterfly...and then it flies away! We learned the life cycle by reading and retelling great stories such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, acting out the life cycle ourselves, and working together to sequence life cycle pictures. We will continue our butterfly fun next week!
MAPS testing begins Monday morning at 8:45! Please make sure your child is well rested, well nourished, and to school on time Monday morning! We will continue our testing Tuesday morning at 9:30.
